April 14th, 2009

I received a call from Dr.Katz's office on Monday, and the information my local doctor had needed was sent. I called the insurance company to see if the IV drugs they were going to be putting her on were covered and they were....Praise the Lord. At this point I was getting excited that everything was falling into place. They also aired another interview with Dr.Katz and I on Tuesday morning which I felt went well, you can listen to it at www.cbc.ca/ns/

Yesterday my excitement over her finally receiving treatment turned to more frustration. I received a call from my local doctor who said she had been talking with public health and they are not cooperating yet. The said they are not sure they want to accept that she had a positive result in the states for Lyme as valid, because she came back negative here on the Eilsa test, which in my opinion is useless. They wanted to know if she had ever seen Infectious Disease at the IWK, to which I responded yes, and they were the ones that did the Elisa test. Public Health felt that my doctor should contact them and see how they felt about this diagnosis and weather we should treat her! My doctor contacted them and they said they would have to discuss her case as a group and would get back to her, delaying Rebekah's treatment even longer. Also Dr.Katz wants Rebekah to have an ultrasound to check for gallstones before starting treatment, due to IV meds sometimes causing them. This can take months to get in. We cannot wait months to get her treatment started. So if it is going to take longer than a week or two to get her in, I will be seeing if we can go ahead and start treatment anyway and get the ultrasound when it is available, or possibly look into a private clinic which will cost even more money. Also if Public Health and or Infectious disease does not back up my doctor treating her, then we are up against another brick wall. So please continue to pray that we can get things moving, and quickly. Rebekah still continues to feel miserable.
