May 5th, 2010

Rebekah is now almost 3 weeks into the new IV regime. She gets treatment twice a day from Sunday night till Thursday morning. She is then off treatment from Thursday till Sunday evening. She has been doing well adjusting to the pump which administers her drug instead of the nurses. She is connected to this portable pump from about 5 in the evening until 8 in the morning. She has adjusted well to sleeping with her new friend the pump. I disconnect her from the pump in the morning and administer her saline and heparin. The nurse comes around 5 in the evening and reattaches her to it and does the paperwork. She seems to do well the first day or two off treatment, but then that last day or so is not feeling well at all. That tells us there still has to be Lyme in her body. I hope the reaction is because it is being killed off. We have just found out that she has had another complication from the Lyme. It is caused by the IV Rocephin she is on, but we have no choice as this is the best drug for killing Lyme that we know of. Rebekah has developed gallstones. Right now I don't think they are serious, she has about 1-2 attacks a week, but they don't last real long. We will keep an eye on it, and if they get real bad will have to look into what the options are. Please pray that they don't become a big problem, as we don't want more surgery for her, even if it is not a major surgery.

May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month!
