February 10th, 2011

We returned from Truro last night safe and sound. The roads were not wonderful on the way there, but I have driven much worse.

The visit with the surgeon was short. He said she has gallstones(which we already new) and if she is having pain then the gallbaldder needs to come out. He said they can do surgery in about 6 weeks. Rebekah was very upset with this news as she knows even though it is a simple surgery there are always risks, and it will affect her dance. She loves dance and is learning a very hard Irish dance right now. We talked about it quite a bit on the way home and have decided we are going to look into other forms of treatment to get rid of them. I did some research, and some sites do say that people that get gallstones fromRocephin (the IV drug she is on) often have no trouble with them after treatment is over and they dissolve on their own. I do not believe this is the norm for other problems with stones. She has 3 days left of treatment. We will watch and see what conspires over the next few weeks and if she is not having any trouble then we may hold off on the surgery. Rebekah is aware that there is always a possibility that she could have a full blown attack and land in emergency surgery, but one step at a time is all we can do. We would appreciate prayers as we look at other possibilities of treatment. I can see Rebekah growing weary of all that she has gone through and it breaks my heart. She is such a beautiful, compassionate and strong young lady. Please continue to pray for Rebekah and the struggles she faces daily.
