Nov 2nd, 2009

It has been a month since we have updated. Life has been busy and until 2 weeks ago nothing much had changed since our last update.

We are finally starting to see a bigger improvement in Rebekah. Her energy level has increased to about 50% of what it use to be. We were so surprised to see her make it through "Challenge" a big youth event at our church that takes place from Friday evening till Saturday evening, and she had a great time. We did bring her home to sleep instead of spending the night, but that was the only time she had a break. She still tires easier than a normal teen, but there is definite improvement. She still has the daily headache, sore throat and stomach issues, but we hope those will start decreasing soon. All of her other symptoms flare up very infrequently. Rebekah will continue on the IV antibiotics for at least another 6 weeks, or longer. We do not want to rush her off them as we want her headache and other symptoms gone before we do that, or we may not have killed all of the Lyme bacteria. After we have decided with her doctor the best time to take her off the IV's, then we will look into putting her on a maintenance dose of orals for another period of time to make sure she is completely free of the bacteria. We are a little concerned their could be a co-infection going on with this Lyme and that is why her headache and other symptoms have not decreased, but we will wait a bit longer before we investigate that.

Rebekah continues to be monitored every 3 months for the tumor on the pineal gland of her brain. She goes for another MRI in early December. They are still concerned with the size and change in it, and if it grows again we may have no option other than to biopsy it, but we hope that will not happen. We are hoping that it is caused from the Lyme disease and that it will have shrunk. Will continue to keep you posted when we have more news. Thanks for praying so faithfully for Rebekah!
